The Movie of the Summer

Every so often a film comes along that pushes the boundaries of the medium and makes us remember why we fell in love with movies in the first place.

Inception is such a movie.

Boundlessly imaginative, visually invigorating, and continuously inventive, writer/director Christopher Nolan has created a film unlike any seen before.

The story revolves around the idea of manipulating dreams, and beyond that, I’m not going to go into any more detail.  The fun of Inception is discovering what it is about and how all those amazing visuals in the trailer fit into it.

Inception’s impressive cast includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Marion Cotillard, Ken Watanabe, Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy and Dileep Rao.  Tom Berenger, Pete Postlethwaite and Michael Caine pop up in short, but pivotal roles.

As talented as the cast is, the real star of the film is its complex plot, multi-layered ideas, and stunning effects.  It’s filled with action and intrigue, but what drives the film is its emotional impact and the ambitious ideas Nolan presents and then rides like a roller coaster to the end.  There’s never a letdown throughout its two hour and twenty-plus minutes.  Even the final fade out raises questions and leaves you wanting more.

And there’s nothing else to say except... see it!
